The National Archives has photocopies and indexes of naturalization documents, 1787-1906, filed by courts in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. These records were copied and indexed by the Work Projects Administration in the late 1930's. The General Branch, Civil Archives Division and the National Archives will search these records for information about naturalizations that occurred before September 27, 1906, if given the full name of the petitioner and the approximate date of naturalization
